Man Arrested for Stealing and Slaughtering Goat Worth N200,000 for Daughter’s Naming Ceremony

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a man, Akintoye Waris, for allegedly stealing and slaughtering a goat valued at N200,000 in the Odeda area of the state. The goat was reportedly used for his child’s naming ceremony.

According to the police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, Waris and his accomplice, Ajayi Yusuf, were apprehended on Thursday by officers from the Odeda division.

The incident occurred on December 25, 2024, when the suspects allegedly invaded a farm while the owner, identified as Mark, took cattle out for grazing. Upon Mark’s return, he noticed one of his goats was missing and alerted the community. Villagers reported seeing the suspects with the goat on a motorcycle.

During interrogation, the suspects confessed to stealing and slaughtering the goat on December 27. They admitted that it was used to prepare food for Waris’s daughter’s naming ceremony, held in Olodo.

The case has drawn attention within the community, with police continuing investigations into the matter.
