A 50-year-old woman tragically passed away following breast implant surgery at a cosmetic clinic near Venice, Italy.
The woman, identified as Helen Comin, reportedly underwent the procedure without complications, but her health took a sudden turn for the worse just an hour after surgery. Five days later, after being in a coma, she died on September 10 of last year.
According to NeedtoKnow, Helen was in good health prior to the surgery, which was considered low-risk. However, a cardiac arrest led to her hospitalization and her death.
The Treviso Public Prosecutor’s Office has since opened an investigation, naming both her surgeon and anesthetist as suspects. As the Investigations continued, it was said she may have experienced a paradoxical reaction that triggered severe cardiac stress. Investigators believe the reaction could be linked to the potent painkiller Sufentanil combined with residual anesthesia.
Curiously, although Sufentanil use was referenced in a phone call between a nurse and the hospital on September 7, the drug does not appear in the clinic’s medical records. Authorities are now working to determine why it was omitted and whether this drugs also contributed to Helen’s death.
