Staff of the Federal Medical Centre, Abuja, recently refused to help the survivors of an accident who were taken to the hospital in terrible shape.

In a video recording of the incident shared on Monday on X by Kalu Aja, a finance expert, one hospital staff member can be heard complaining about the absence of ‘gloves’.

In the video, the rescuer is seen approaching the medical practitioners in the hospital, as they refused to help the dying patient out of the car.

“I just assisted some people. People are nearly dying and I just assisted them,” the rescuer told a female staff.“See this guy (referring to the dying patient), see his situation.”

Speaking to another female staff member, the rescuer complained about the nonchalant attitude of her colleague towards the injured patient.

“My sister, I have already done my best. For me to see some people there and bring them to the hospital. She was saying it was not her duty (to help the patient down from the car). If it were your relative, can you leave him the way he is?” he complained.

But rather than help, she also showed a lackadaisical attitude and sternly told the rescuer that they had no hand gloves to help the dying patient.

A closer view of the patient shows he had suffered a serious wound to the head, which led to bleeding.

The rescuer further revealed that he saw the patients after they were involved in an accident and then decided to transport them in his car to the hospital.

Though the video’s duration was just 4 minutes long, he said he had been in the hospital for more than 15 minutes without any of the hospital staff bothering to wheel the bleeding man out of his car.

At the end of the video, some men could be seen wearing gloves to convey the injured man from the car to the hospital before other mildly injured patients also found their way in.

In response to the video which the hospital had seen Sunday, Obadiah N. K. Gana, the hospital’s Public Relations Officer, said that investigations have been launched into the occurrence.

“The management is committed to providing a full report of our investigation once it is completed. We apologise for any distress or discomfort caused and want to assure you that we take feedback seriously.”
