The generous act started on July 16 via a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), where the singer invited first-class graduates to share snapshots of their academic transcripts. The post quickly gained traction, with numerous users responding and showcasing their achievements.

Adekunle Gold personally reviewed some of the submissions and followed up by gifting selected individuals N250,000, sparking widespread praise and emotional thank-you messages from recipients who posted evidence of the alerts and expressed their gratitude.

However, in a humorous yet pointed follow-up message, the artist singled out Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) students, writing, “OAU Students, don’t bother 😪”, alongside an image of Rick Ross’s album God Forgives, I Don’t.

This comment referenced a bitter memory from 2015, when the singer performed at OAU with a limited song list, primarily singing his hit single “Sade.” Technical issues reportedly marred the show, and the disappointed crowd allegedly booed him, raided his hotel room, and made away with N150,000 from his N300,000 performance fee.

Despite that past incident, Adekunle Gold’s recent gesture has earned him widespread admiration for supporting academic excellence in a tangible way.
