
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Sunusi Musa (SAN), a lawyer and politician from Kano State, as Chairman of the Institute of Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR). The appointment was among several others announced by the presidency.
A statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, said: “President Tinubu approved the appointment today, along with seven others.”
Musa, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, has been active in politics and legal practice, representing clients in several high-profile political cases, including those involving APC governorship candidates in Kano and Kaduna States.
He holds a law degree from Bayero University, Kano, a postgraduate diploma in education, and a Master’s in Legislative Drafting from the University of Benin. In 2018, he led the Nigeria Consolidation Ambassadors Network, a group that raised N50 million to buy a presidential nomination form for Muhammadu Buhari.
Other appointments announced include Muhammad Babangida as Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture; Lydia Kalat Musa as Chair of the Oil and Gas Free Zone Authority (OGFZA); Jamilu Wada Aliyu (Kano) as Chair of the National Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC); and Hon. Yahuza Ado Inuwa (Kano) as Chair of the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON).
According to the statement, the appointments reflect the President’s “commitment to merit, regional inclusion, and the need to reposition key agencies for better service delivery.”
Also appointed were Prof. Al-Mustapha Alhaji Aliyu (Sokoto) as Director-General of the Directorate of Technical Cooperation in Africa (DTCA); Sanusi Garba Rikiji (Zamfara) as DG of the Nigerian Office for Trade Negotiations (NOTN); Mrs. Tomi Somefun (Oyo) as MD of the National Hydro-Electric Power Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC); and Dr. Abdulmumini Mohammed Aminu-Zaria (Kaduna) as Executive Director of the Nigerian Integrated Water Resources Management Commission (NIWRMC).
