The Nigerian film industry is in mourning following the death of veteran actor Tom Njemanze.

His passing was confirmed by film producer Stanley Ajemba Chibueze, popularly known as Stanley Ontop, in a social media post on Saturday, July 19. According to him, the actor died the previous day, Friday, July 18, after battling a prolonged illness.

Stanley shared the heartbreaking update, saying, “Good afternoon everyone. It’s a sad moment for Nollywood as we just received confirmation from Tom Njemanze’s family that he passed away yesterday due to health complications. We did our best, but God knows best. Rest in peace, legend.”

Njemanze had earlier made public appeals for help after being diagnosed with prostate cancer. Videos shared online by Stanley Ontop had shown the ailing actor in a critical condition frail, lying in a hospital bed, supported by oxygen and IV drips.

In his efforts to assist, Stanley had previously posted the actor’s account details, urging well-meaning Nigerians to offer financial support.

Known for his memorable roles in classic Nollywood films such as Died Wretched, Issakaba, Osuofia in London, Magic Cap, Twin Brothers, and My School Mother, Njemanze leaves behind a lasting legacy in the industry.
