There was tension on Friday night in the Daneji area of Kano Municipal Local Government Area after a highly venomous snake reportedly escaped from the residence of the former Accountant General of the Federation, Ahmad Idris, Hikima Radio reports.
Residents say the snake, believed to be one of several exotic animals kept in the house, went missing at night, causing panic across the neighborhood.
One resident, who spoke to this medium on condition of anonymity, said, “We just heard that the snake they keep in the house had escaped. Everyone was worried because we know it is dangerous. People stayed indoors that night out of fear.”
Another source, also speaking anonymously, confirmed the incident but added that the snake was eventually recaptured before it could leave the premises.
“Yes, it did escape, but they were able to catch it before it left the compound. Still, it was a scary moment for all of us,” the source said.
This is not the first time residents have raised concerns about the presence of dangerous animals in the house.
Some community members say they have been living in fear since two lions and several snakes were brought into the property.
“We don’t feel safe anymore. Anything can happen. This is a residential area, not a zoo,” said another worried neighbor.
All efforts to get an official response from someone within the household were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
