The head of the Kebbi State community in Kano, Alhaji Ahmad Jega, has reacted to the appointment of Muhammad Babangida as the new Chairman of the Board of the Bank of Agriculture (BOA) by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The announcement has drawn reactions from some northern communities who see the move as significant for grassroots agricultural development.
In a statement to journalists in Kano, Alhaji Jega described the appointment as “timely and strategic,” citing Babangida’s knowledge of agricultural policies and rural empowerment as qualities that could benefit farming communities.
“Muhammad Babangida has always shown exceptional commitment to agricultural innovation and rural transformation. His appointment by President Tinubu reflects a clear vision for strengthening food security and supporting farmers across the country,” Jega said.
He added that the Kebbi State community in Kano has consistently called for greater representation in national agricultural institutions and views Babangida’s appointment as part of that demand being met.
The Bank of Agriculture is responsible for supporting farmers through financing, training, and extension services.
Analysts say new leadership under Babangida may improve access to resources for small-scale farmers, especially in rural areas.
President Tinubu’s administration has stated it will prioritize food security and agricultural development as part of its economic plan, and this appointment is considered part of that agenda.
Alhaji Ahmad Jega called on other community leaders to support the new BOA chairman in efforts to improve the agricultural sector.
