Serving personnel biting fingers that fed them – Protesting retired police officer laments [VIDEO]

Retired police officers who are protesting the poor pensions, salaries and welfare of both serving and retired personnel.

Recall that Politics Nigeria had earlier reported that retired police officers were protesting across various states of the country including the Federal Capital Territory.

The retired police officer during the protest demanded improved welfare, salaries and pension from the Nigeria Police Force.

Speaking during the protest, DSP Godwin Tom, a retired Deputy Superintendent of Police called on the Force’s hierarchy to desist from withholding the entitlements and welfare packages due to them.

A perturbed Tom who was captured in a video stated that having served for 35 years with the Nigeria Police Force he is barely surviving on a N40,000 monthly pension.

Tom said, “I am saying that the IG, the Deputy Inspector Generals of Police (DIGs) and AIGs, let them come to our help. They should remember that when they came out from the Nigeria Police Academy  (POLAC) as the case may be, we were the ones who taught them to write in the routinery; we were the ones who taught them police duties, practical police duties.

“Most of us, we accommodated them, most of us, we fed them and now they are biting the fingers that fed them. It’s quite unfortunate, what kind of wickedness in Nigeria. Wickedness to the core,” the retired DSP stated.

Tom further pleaded with the IGP and other senior officers to ensure that the welfare of personnel and retired officers is improved and handled with the need transparency.

“The IG, the DIGs and the AIGs should put their minds together and not stand against our entitlements any longer.

“I have retired, please. I served for 35 good years. I was given 1.7 million Naira, I retired in 2018, Since then, I was given N40,000 every month, what can 40k do?” Tom queried.
