UNICEF, in partnership with the Bauchi State Agricultural Development Programme (BSADP), on Monday launched the School Gardening and Young Farmers Club initiative in secondary schools across the state.

Inaugurating the project at Government Girls College, Bauchi, the Commissioner for Education, Dr Muhammad Rimin-Zayam, stated that the initiative would refuce dropout rates, encourage girls to stay in school and acquire life skills.

The commissioner stated that the project would be piloted in six schools to enhance nutrition, environmental awareness, practical experience, and agricultural education across the state.

Rimin-Zayam added that the initiative seeks to equip students, especially girls, with essential agricultural skills, promote healthy eating habits and instill environmental responsibility.

According to him, farming drives development, provides nutritious food, and generates income.

He, therefore, urged teachers and school authorities to fully back the initiative.
