MonIT, a civic technology platform that provides citizens with information to track the progress of public projects and access public data has written Governor Ahmed Ododo over the poor condition of LGEA Primary School in Kogi State, asking him to fix it.

“Dear Governor Ahmed Ododo, this is LGEA Primary School, Ajaokuta Village, Kogi State, the only public school serving children in this underserved community. Built in 1973, the structure is now a death trap,” MonIT wrote.

“The classrooms have leaking roofs, no ceilings, no furniture, and the walls are crumbling.Young pupils sit on broken chairs, some squeezed together on shaky desks.

“Behind them, piles of destroyed furniture are dumped like trash. The school environment is unsafe, unfit for learning, and a clear symbol of long-standing government neglect.”

MonIT lamented that while children of the poor study in ruins, Yahaya Bello, former Kogi State Governor was busy using state funds meant for public education to pay upfront fees for his own children in expensive private schools.

The civic technology platform added that education was never a priority for Bello the way looting was.

Meanwhile, the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has confirmed over ₦250 billion meant for basic education across the 36 states of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja remains unutilised.

MonIT lamented that the tragedy is not just in the figures but in the faces of these children who sit in collapsing classrooms, hoping for a better future.

“We call on Governor Ahmed Ododo to urgently renovate this school. Fix the roof. Provide furniture. Give these children a decent chance at life. Enough of the propaganda. The real Kogi is suffering,” MonIT wrote.
