
The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 4,741 police inspectors following a recent nationwide board interview.
Out of the total number, 4,708 inspectors were promoted to the rank of unconfirmed Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP), while 33 were promoted to the position of Senior Inspectors.
The PSC also promoted 38 Specialist Deputy Superintendents to Superintendents and 29 Specialist Superintendents to Chief Superintendents.
According to a statement signed by Ikechukwu Ani, Head of Press and Public Relations at the PSC, the promotions were part of the decisions taken at the Commission’s plenary meeting held in Abuja on Monday, July 21, 2025.
The meeting, chaired by retired Deputy Inspector General of Police Hashimu Argungu, also approved the promotion of 12 Commissioners of Police to Assistant Inspectors General, 16 Deputy Commissioners to Commissioners, and 28 Assistant Commissioners to Deputy Commissioners.
Three officers from Rano Local Government Area in Kano State—ACP Abdullahi Bala Rano, ACP Muhammad Saleh Rano, and ACP Saminu Umar Madachi—were among those promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police.
Other promoted inspectors include Rabiu Ibrahim, Izang Nyam, Nannim James, Chinelo Obinuku, Bariminas Auyatiya, Sabi’u Umar, Lawan Haruna, Opurum Patrick, Agbo James, and Georgewill Onwubiko.
Speaking after the meeting, PSC Chairman Argungu urged the officers to carry out their duties with integrity.
“You are the friend next door,” he said. “You should at all times live up to the expectations of Nigerians.”
He also said the Commission will continue to work toward improving the conditions of service for police personnel.
Others in attendance at the meeting included retired Justice Paul Adamu Galumje, DIG Taiwo Lakanu (rtd), Justice Christine Ladi Dabup (rtd), Abdulfatah Mohammed, Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, and the Secretary to the Commission.
