Actress and TV host Nancy Isime has opened up about a deeply personal chapter from her early years, revealing how singer Yemi Alade once gave her a place to stay during a difficult period in her life
In a touching social media post, Nancy reflected on her beginnings at just 17, when she worked as a model and usher. Her family lived in Ikorodu, far from where most of her jobs took place, leaving her with no option but to find her way home late at night sometimes walking at 2 or 3 a.m. She recalled sleeping on chairs and rugs, with her concerned father constantly checking in and her brothers doing their best to meet her halfway.
Describing that phase between ages 17 and 19, she admitted it was a tough time filled with uncertainty about where to sleep each night. She added, “Yes, my family was worried, especially my dad, but I’m a dangerous gyal and it’s best to let me figure out life my way… else the rebellion is quite rebellious. I must confess I’m a full-blooded Esan woman; our stubbornness is from above.”
Amidst the hustle, Nancy shared that she once reached out to Yemi Alade after meeting her through a friend. She asked to crash at Yemi’s off-campus accommodation and Yemi didn’t hesitate.
“I stayed for weeks and this woman NEVER EVER complained. In fact, the peace was too much I had to leave even when I wasn’t ready to.”
Eventually, Nancy was able to secure her own apartment in the same building after gaining admission into university. Her friendship with Yemi blossomed further over the years.
Grateful for the experience, Nancy wrote, “Many years later, I still have the softest spot for Yemi and will eternally be grateful to her. Allowing me to squat with her wasn’t what stood out I squatted with other people too it was the attitude, consideration, and the peace!”
She ended her post with a touching shoutout:
“My Padi @yemialade, I dey for you for life!”
