Some communities in Ruwan Bore Ward, Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara, on Wednesday staged a peaceful protest over the incessant attacks by armed bandits.
Freedomonline reports that the protesters who took their protest to the Government House, Gusau, were from Ruwan Bore, Mada, Wonaka, Fegin-Mahe, Kanawa, and Tudun Wada communities.
The protesters unanimously appealed to the state government and security agencies to intervene in the security challenge in their communities by ensuring the protection of their lives and properties.
Aminu Bello from Fegin-Mahe community who spoke on behalf of the protesters said that there were no presence of security operatives in the communities.
According to him, we don’t have security operatives in my villages and this has enhanced criminals free attack on us any time they want.
“Raining season is at its peak, but we cannot cultivate our farms because of the activities and attack of bandits on us.”
Meanwhile when contacted, the Vice Chairman, Gusau Local Government Area, Mr Aminu Mada acknowledged that there was need to urgently address security concerns in the area.
Mada explained that he recently escaped death during a working visit to the area, however said that rather than going to the government house to protest, the protesters should have relocated to the nearest Area Development Council, where the council could easily provide them with shelter and other emergency needs.
“The idea of coming to the capital, especially the government house is beyond comprehension as the action cannot proffer solution to the challenge” he said .
He noted that the present administration in the state under the leadership of Gov. Dauda Lawal was doing everything possible to secure the life and property of the citizens.
He further called on the residents to continue to support government and security agencies with prayers and useful information.
