Veteran Nollywood actress Rita Edochie is facing heavy criticism after posting a controversial video on her Instagram page. The clip, shared on Wednesday, July 23, showed the actress dancing and singing along to a track reportedly linked to the Aye cult group.
The video quickly drew public attention and was flagged by Naija Confra, an anti-cultism advocacy account on Instagram. The group, known for its firm opposition to cult-related activities, accused the actress of promoting dangerous content, especially given her status as a public figure.
In their post, Naija Confra condemned Edochie’s choice of music, stating:
“A super talented actress and public figure misusing her influence to promote cultism.”
They stressed that celebrities have a duty to set positive examples, warning that associating with cult-linked material even indirectly could send the wrong message to fans and young people.
Meanwhile, Rita Edochie appeared unfazed by the criticism. In the video’s caption, she highlighted her resilience and made it clear that she refuses to tolerate disrespect, presenting herself as strong and defiant.
