A woman from Ohio, identified as Jane Doe, has filed a lawsuit against rapper Cardi B over an incident that occurred in 2023 during a live performance on the Las Vegas Strip.
According to legal documents, the plaintiff alleges she sustained physical injuries, emotional trauma, embarrassment, reputational damage, and financial setbacks after Cardi B allegedly threw a microphone that hit her during the show.
The event took place at Drai’s Beachclub, where the rapper whose real name is Belcalis Marlenis Cephus was on stage. Viral footage from the concert shows someone in the audience throwing water at Cardi B, prompting her to throw her microphone into the crowd in response.
The lawsuit claims that Cardi B had earlier invited fans to splash water on her during the set, leading attendees to believe the act was encouraged. Jane Doe says that several people had already done so without any negative reaction, but when she joined in, the artist allegedly retaliated by throwing the microphone, which hit her on the right shoulder.
Adding to the controversy, the same microphone was later sold at auction for nearly $99,000. The lawsuit argues that this act contributed further to the plaintiff’s emotional suffering.
Jane Doe is pursuing at least $15,000 in general damages, along with unspecified amounts in special and punitive damages.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department investigated the incident but ultimately closed the case, citing a lack of evidence. The Clark County District Attorney’s Office agreed no charges would be filed.
