A Chinese businessman, Liang Tak You, has been arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos for attempting to smuggle 26.10 kilograms of Loud, a synthetic strain of cannabis, into Nigeria.

He was arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Friday, July 25, 2025, after arriving on an Emirates flight from Bangkok via Dubai.

According to the agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, Liang had travelled to Thailand to collect two suitcases filled with 50 parcels of the drug before flying into Nigeria.

“NDLEA operatives who were tracking his movement from his port of departure allowed him to pass through necessary protocols before picking him up on his way out of the airport,” Babafemi said.

Liang’s arrest was one of several recorded across the country in a week-long crackdown on drug trafficking.

The same day, a shipment of Canadian Loud concealed in 202 cans labelled “Bean Salad Mix” was discovered in a container from Canada at the Apapa Port. The 101kg of cannabis was hidden inside two Toyota Sienna vehicles.
