Gombe State Governor and Chairman of the Northern States Governors Forum, Inuwa Yahaya, has declared that the North will once again rally behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general election, citing the president’s visible achievements and fulfilled promises to the region.
Yahaya made the declaration on Tuesday during the opening of a two-day interactive session on government-citizen engagement organised by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation at Arewa House in Kaduna.
The event, themed “Assessing Electoral Promises: Fostering Government-Citizen Engagement for National Unity,” drew stakeholders from across the 19 Northern states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Representatives of President Tinubu at the event included Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq and Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris.
“When candidate Bola Ahmed Tinubu stood before us, he made specific commitments to Northern Nigeria. The North, believing in his vision, gave him over 60 percent of the total votes. Today, those promises are becoming reality,” Yahaya said.
The governor listed ongoing federal infrastructure projects across the North, including the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano expressway, the Kano–Katsina–Maradi rail line, the rehabilitation of the Kaduna refinery, the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano gas pipeline, and drilling operations at the Kolmani oilfields, as evidence of Tinubu’s dedication to the region’s development.
“These projects promise industrial growth and energy security in Northern Nigeria. We must reward performance in 2027—and by that standard, President Tinubu has earned our support,” Yahaya affirmed.
He stressed that the administration’s renewed hope agenda is gradually transforming long-standing regional ambitions into tangible progress, despite economic and security hurdles.
Yahaya also hailed the North–Southwest political alliance as a stabilising force in Nigeria’s unity, echoing the words of the late Sardauna of Sokoto: “The North’s strength lies in its unity with all Nigeria.”
The endorsement comes amid opposition activity in the North. A coalition housed under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has gained traction among some Northern stakeholders. The group has vowed to ensure the defeat of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.
