Former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, on Tuesday met with stakeholders of the party in Ilorin, Kwara state, to address rising concerns over reported coalition talks among opposition parties.
The meeting, held behind closed doors at Saraki’s GRA residence, was aimed at clarifying rumours and strengthening party cohesion ahead of the 2027 elections.
Before journalists were asked to leave, Saraki told party members that he felt obligated to address the speculations “as a democrat whose people have asked to clarify a number of issues about the party.”
His words: “You have all been observing what’s happening at the national level and you want to know the situation. I owe you that — to come down and explain to you.
“You’re all aware of innuendoes making the rounds about what I know and what I don’t know. I believe I must come and let you hear from the horse’s mouth, so you can know the true position of the matter.”
Saraki denied any involvement in the emerging opposition coalition spearheaded by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stressing that he had not asked anyone to join.
“I don’t have anything to do with the ADC and have not told anybody to join the coalition,” he declared.
He also urged party members to prioritise the upcoming continuous voter registration exercise scheduled to begin on August 18, 2025.
Olushola Adewara, the party’s state publicity secretary, cautioned members against engaging with external political alliances.
He said: “In case you are invited by any coalition, shun such engagement.
“The PDP is one under our leader and former senate president, Dr. Bukola Saraki, who has shown uncommon leadership in keeping the party united and focused on 2027.”
