Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Benue State on Wednesday blocked the Yelwata section of the Benue–Nasarawa highway, demanding their immediate return to ancestral homes.

The protesters, who are victims of repeated attacks by suspected herdsmen, obstructed traffic on both lanes of the major route, chanting slogans such as “We want to go back home.”

The action, which lasted several hours, left motorists and commuters stranded.

The IDPs are protesting prolonged suffering in overcrowded camps and accusing the government of neglect.

“We have stayed too long in camps. We want to return to our homes and farms,” one protester told journalists.

Security personnel have been deployed to the scene to prevent the escalation of the situation.
