Alhaji Ahmed Makama Hardawa, Chairman of the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) and a former Resident Electoral Commissioner, is dead.

Hardawa passed away on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, in Abuja, after what sources described as a brief illness. Until his death, he served as BASIEC Chairman, with his final official duty being the supervision of a by-election in Shira Local Government Area on May 24.

Governor Bala Mohammed, in a condolence statement issued by his spokesperson, Mukhtar Gidado, described Hardawa’s death as a great loss to both Bauchi State and the nation.

Governor Bala described him as “a man of wisdom, humility, and exemplary leadership,” adding that his experience and service-oriented mindset would be missed, especially now when the country’s democratic structures face growing challenges.
