In other news, Nigerian nurses, under the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), have begun a seven-day nationwide warning strike today, July 30, 2025, after a 15-day ultimatum to the federal government expired.
The strike, which will affect 74 federal hospitals, general hospitals, and primary healthcare centres nationwide, excludes private hospitals.
NANNM says the action was triggered by poor remuneration, staff shortages, unpaid allowances, unsafe working conditions, and the government’s failure to negotiate.
Their demands include the implementation of a nurses’ scheme of service, enforcement of a 2012 court judgment, upward review of allowances, recruitment of more nursing staff, better equipment for health facilities, and policy reforms in the health sector.
