The Federal Government has revealed that the Kaduna–Kano standard gauge rail project is now 53 percent complete and will be delivered next year.

Sa’idu Alkali, minister of transportation, gave the assurance on Wednesday at the government–citizen engagement forum organised by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation at Arewa House in Kaduna.

Alkali said the project was only 15 percent complete when President Bola Tinubu assumed office on May 29, 2023.

He added that work has since accelerated and that funding was secured through a bilateral agreement with the Chinese government.

“We are making steady progress on the Kaduna–Kano rail line, and I want to assure Nigerians that by 2026, the project will be completed,” the minister said.

The project is part of the Lagos–Kano railway corridor aimed at improving connectivity and easing the transportation of goods and passengers between northern and southern Nigeria.
