Katsina Assembly raises alarm over rising bandit attacks, seeks federal intervention

The Katsina State House of Assembly has raised concerns over what it described as the escalating wave of bandit attacks on communities in the state.

The concern was brought up during plenary on Wednesday, presided over by Speaker Nasir Yahaya-Daura.

At the session, Muhammad Abubakar-Khamis, who represents Dutsinma constituency, moved a motion of urgent public importance, urging the government to deploy more soldiers and security operatives to parts of his constituency.

Abubakar-Khamis, who chairs the House Committee on Security, said residents of Makera, Gammo, Karofi and Dabawa wards in Dutsinma LGA were living in fear following the spate of killings and abductions by terrorists.

His words: “There’s the need for the government to deploy more security operatives to Makera, Gammo, Karofi and Dabawa wards in Dutsinma Local Government Area.

“The attacks in these areas are increasing daily. The bandits recently killed residents, top security operatives, and also abducted other residents.”

While commending the state government for its current efforts, he urged the federal government to intensify support to complement local initiatives.

Other lawmakers also spoke in support of the motion, calling for a coordinated security strategy from both federal and state authorities.

The assembly unanimously adopted the motion and resolved to forward the request to the executive arm for swift action to safeguard lives and property.
