The Yusuf Maitama Sule Federal University of Education, formerly Federal College of Education, Kano, has received approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to commence full-fledged degree programmes starting from the 2025/2026 academic session.
This was contained in a statement issued by the University’s Academic Secretary, Dr. Auwalu Mudi Yakasal, on behalf of the Registrar. He said the approval followed a resource inspection conducted by the NUC.
“I am pleased to report that the University achieved a perfect score of 100% in this evaluation,” Dr. Yakasal stated.
Following the NUC’s approval, the University will offer degree programmes in 28 disciplines, including B.Ed. Primary Education, B.Sc. (Ed.) Computer Science, B.A. (Ed.) English, and B.A. (Ed.) Hausa.
The institution also stated that it will discontinue the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) programme starting from the 2024/2025 academic session.
“All candidates who had earlier applied for the NCE programme can now use the JAMB Portal to change their application to a degree programme of their choice,” Yakasal said. “The cut-off point for the 100-level degree programme is 150, in addition to the minimum O-Level requirement of five credits, including English and Mathematics.”
He added that holders of NCE certificates are eligible to apply for direct entry into 200 level.
Dr. Yakasal also noted that the University Management has set up a committee to handle the placement of staff in line with the institution’s new academic structure.
He further announced that results for all Kano State Government-sponsored NCE merger students are ready. “They should report to the University for collection starting from Wednesday, July 30, 2025,” he said.
