The Joint Clusters of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Kano State have distanced themselves from a recent report published by Kano Times, which claimed that they criticized the Kano State Government over delays in establishing a Disability Commission.
The clarification followed a July 30, 2025, article quoting unnamed stakeholders as having “slammed” the government.
The report was accompanied by a photograph from a previous event held on July 22 titled Stakeholders Engagement on Strengthening Inclusive Support System for Vulnerable Population and Persons with Disabilities in Kano State.
In a statement issued Thursday, Abdulrahman Uba Daushe, Chairman of the Spinal Cord Injuries Association and a leading member of the Joint Clusters, said:
“We wish to clarify that as the Joint Clusters of Kano State Persons with Disabilities, we did not attend any engagement related to the headline published by the said newspaper, and we did not make any statement or participate in any meeting criticizing or ‘slamming’ the Kano State government.”
He added that although one cluster head was present at the event, it was in a personal capacity, not on behalf of the Joint Clusters.
“After the publication, the Joint Clusters sought clarification from the organizers and some attendees. Many were shocked by the claims made in the report and have distanced themselves from such irrational and baseless information.”
Daushe said the group maintains a working relationship with the state government and acknowledged the administration’s engagement with PWDs.
“Our organization remains committed to working collaboratively with the government to advocate for the rights and inclusion of persons with disabilities,” the statement read.
“We value our partnership with the administration of Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf and relevant stakeholders in promoting the welfare of persons with disabilities.”
He also noted that the group had never been denied access to the governor or his cabinet when presenting proposals.
“We call on all members and leadership of the Joint Clusters of Kano State PWDs, the general public, and organizations working in this space to note that our approach is rooted in dialogue, not confrontation,” Daushe said.
