Governors from Nigeria, Kenya, and Egypt have been named among the international honorees for the upcoming Governors Excellence Awards scheduled for August 19, 2025, in Paris, France.
The event will recognize sub-national leaders across Africa for their roles in governance, service delivery, and public sector reforms. Organizers say the awards aim to highlight initiatives in healthcare, education, infrastructure, and economic inclusion.
Those selected from Egypt include Governor Abdel Mutalib Amara of Kafr El Sheikh, Governor Amr Hanafi of the Red Sea, Governor Gamal Nour El-Din of Asyut, and Governor Khaled Fouda of South Sinai.
From Kenya, the awardees are Professor Hillary Kipngeno Barchok of Bomet County, George Natembeya of Trans Nzoia County, Mohamed Adan Khalif of Mandera County, and Jeremiah Lomorukai of Turkana County.
Nigeria will be represented by Governors Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Babagana Zulum (Borno), Uba Sani (Kaduna), Hope Uzodinma (Imo), and Abdullahi Sule (Nasarawa).
Dr. Idahosa Osamahze, Vice Chairman of the Selection Committee, said the awards aim to encourage accountability and performance among public officials at the sub-national level.
“These governors exemplify what leadership with vision, integrity, and purpose can achieve,” the Awards Secretariat stated.
The Paris event is expected to draw policymakers, development partners, and diplomatic representatives from across Africa and Europe.
