Kano Governor Nominates Saidu Yahya as Anti-Corruption Commission Chair

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has nominated Mr. Saidu Yahya to serve as the Executive Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC). His name has been sent to the State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.

The development was announced Thursday in a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

Mr. Yahya, 47, is an investigator with over 18 years of experience at the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). Until his nomination, he was Team Leader for General Investigations and Constituency/Executive Projects Tracking and served on the Directorate of Operations Task Force.

“Mr. Yahya brings with him a wealth of experience from the ICPC, where he has served in various strategic roles,” the statement said.

Born in 1978, Yahya holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Bayero University Kano and a Master’s in Business Administration. He has worked in areas including bribery, money laundering, project tracking, illicit financial flows, and misconduct investigations.

The statement said Yahya has received training from institutions including the Anti-Corruption Academy of Nigeria, the Federal Ministry of Justice, and the Defence Intelligence College.

In the same statement, Governor Yusuf announced the appointment of Barrister Hafsat Ada’u Kutama as Secretary and Legal Adviser to the Commission. She replaces Barrister Zaharadden Hamisu Kofar Mata, who has been asked to return to the Ministry of Justice.

The governor also acknowledged the end of Barrister Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado’s tenure in June 2025, after serving two terms.

“The Governor commended his unwavering commitment to promoting public accountability and good governance,” the statement noted. “The Government of Kano State remains open and willing to work with Barrister Muhuyi in the future, whenever the opportunity arises.”

The nomination and new appointments, according to the statement, are part of changes within the Commission.
