LASU Workers Call Off Strike, Resume Academic Activities

The strike acton embarked by workers of the Lagos State University, LASU has been called off.

The workers officially ended their industrial action following a meeting between the institution’s management and the Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat.

The strike, which began on Thursday, July 31, 2025, was declared by the Joint Action Committee, JAC, of Staff Unions, prompting the institution’s Senate to suspend all academic and social activities during a virtual meeting on Saturday, August 2, 2025.

In a statement signed by the Deputy Registrar and Coordinator, Centre for Information and Public Relations, Thomas-Onashile Oluwayemisi, LASU confirmed that the JAC had agreed to resume full operations.

Academic and social activities across the institution’s campuses will recommence on Wednesday, August 13, 2025.

The statement noted that the decision followed an update from the Vice-Chancellor on the outcome of the meeting with the Deputy Governor. The Senate resolved that:

All academic and social activities should resume from Wednesday, August 13, 2025.

Students are to return to their hostels in Ojo, Ikeja, and Epe campuses on the same date.

The 2024/2025 Second Semester Examinations, earlier put on hold, will now begin on Monday, August 18, 2025.

Students were urged to return promptly and prepare adequately for the forthcoming examinations.
