An alarm has been raised following the destruction of billboards erected in support of the re-election of President Bola Tinubu.

The alarm was raised by a support group within the All Progressives Congress (APC), Grassroots Movement for Tinubu (GMT).

The destruction of the billboards mounted in parts of Akure, the Ondo State capital, was coming amid the suppressed cold war between independent campaign groups in the state canvassing for Tinubu and Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

GMT had, a few days ago, countered the decision of Aiyedatiwa that all support groups must work under a unified platform for the re-election of the President tagged, “Ondo for Tinubu 2027.”

Meanwhile, in a statement issued by the group’s Director of Media and Publicity, Oyewamide Ojo, the removal of the billboards was described as deliberate and malicious, as it emphasised that the group is “deeply outraged” by the development.

Ojo said: “The signposts, strategically installed on streetlights along the Airport Road to Oba-Ile corridor, have been forcefully and cowardly taken down by faceless individuals.”

“GMT views this act of vandalism as an assault on democracy, a slap in the face of free speech and a deliberate attempt to erase the truth of the progress that Nigeria is currently experiencing under Tinubu.”
