The management of Legacy FM, a private radio station in Ebonyi State, has reinstated the suspended acting General Manager, Mr Odoh Godfrey Chikwere, days after he was suspended for allegedly criticising Governor Francis Nwifuru.

In a statement released Monday
and made available to journalists in Abakiliki, the station announced that Chikwere has been recalled and is expected to resume his duties immediately, starting on Tuesday, August 12, 2025.

Chikwere was initially suspended on Saturday, August 9, 2025, following reports that he made a series of remarks both on air and via social media that were perceived as criticism of Governor Nwifuru’s administration.

But according to the management of Legacy FM, the decision to suspend him was based on internal disciplinary concerns rather than political interference.

“The management of Legacy FM 95.1, The Sound of Now, hereby suspends the acting General Manager, Godfrey Chikwere, with immediate effect, till further notice,” the statement had read.

“This is due to unruly behaviour and disobedience to the code of conduct guiding the Legacy FM.

“With such effect, he is hereby directed to hand over all the company property in his position to the next senior officer.”

The controversy followed a Facebook post on Friday, August 8, 2025, in which Chikwere openly criticised the state government.

In the post, he accused the administration of ineffective communication and underperformance among appointees. He also claimed there was a lack of policy direction.

Chikwere advised the governor to act decisively to deliver results, stating that the status quo was undermining the administration’s support base.

He wrote that the administration was “suffering from poor communication, underperformance by his appointees, and a lack of clear policy direction,” and suggested Governor Nwifuru should “step on toes to achieve results”.

In reaction to Chikwere’s public remarks, Monday Uzor, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, issued a statement dismissing the criticisms as baseless.

He also accused Chikwere of ingratitude, pointing to several contributions made by the government to the radio station.

Uzor stated that Chikwere’s claims were “unfounded,” and emphasized that the Nwifuru-led government had shown significant support to Legacy FM, including the donation of a new SUV, installation of a transformer and construction of the access road leading to the station.
