1. The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has placed a seven-year moratorium on the establishment of new federal tertiary institutions. The moratorium covers universities, polytechnics and colleges of education.

2. President Bola Tinubu will depart Abuja on Thursday for a two-nation trip to Japan and Brazil. In a statement, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, said the President will stop over in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, before proceeding to Japan.

3. Kano State House of Assembly has suspended the chairman of Rano Local Government, Muhammad Nazir Yau, for three months to allow for investigation into allegations of misconduct, abuse of office and misappropriation of funds levelled against him by his councillors. The suspension followed submission of an interim report of the House Committee on Public Petition on Wednesday.

4. The Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun State, has demanded N2.5 billion in compensation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over the August 10 raid on its premises. According to the management, the amount is sought to atone for what it described as the severe damage to the reputation, business, and financial standing of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

5. The Federal Government has reduced the flight ban imposed on Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as KWAM 1, to one month. KWAM 1 had been blacklisted from flying within Nigeria for six months over alleged misconduct at the domestic terminal of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

6. The Department of State Security, DSS, has arrested a terrorist kingpin, Abubakar Abba, suspected to be leader of the dreaded Mahmuda terrorists group. The group has been operating in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State and its suburbs and parts of Kwara State in the past months.

7. The police in Imo State have arrested one Pastor Ikenna Emmanuel for allegedly raping a 20-year-old woman in Orlu area of the state. The cleric was apprehended alongside one Franklin Chizoba, who was allegedly an accomplice to the crime.

8. President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday directed a review of deductions and revenue retention practices by Nigeria’s major revenue-generating agencies, in a bid to boost public savings, improve spending efficiency, and unlock resources for growth. The agencies include the Federal Inland Revenue Service, the Nigeria Customs Service, the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited.

9. Imo State Police Command has arrested a 39-year-old man, Ifeanyi Odinka, for allegedly stabbing his father, Dennis Odinka, to death following arguments over proceeds from a land sale in Orlu. Ifeanyi, who hails from Amaifeke, Orlu in the Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State, was alleged to have stabbed his 75-year-old father to death following a dispute over proceeds from a land sale.

10. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has announced plans to screen over 500 exceptional candidates below the age of 16 seeking admission into tertiary institutions for the 2025/2026 academic session. The exercise will run from September 22 to 26. According to resolutions from a virtual meeting on Wednesday, the screening will be conducted by a special technical committee set up by JAMB.
