US President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart, President Vladimir Putin, have arrived in Alaska for a high-profile meeting.

Trump is hoping to broker a ceasefire in the Ukraine war, and said he was “not going to be happy” if the Russians refuse to cooperate.

DAILY POST reports that the two world leaders stepped off their aeroplanes almost simultaneously at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska.

Both leaders descended the steps and shook hands, smiling broadly, before striding down a red carpet to pose for photographs on a stage.

They shook hands again before getting into Trump’s presidential limousine.

Trump had said before the meeting that there was nothing set in stone regarding a potential agreement, acknowledging that success was uncertain.
