Iran executes man convicted of killing family of four

Iranian authorities, on Tuesday, carried out a public execution in the southern province of Fars, following the conviction of a man for the murder of four people, state media reported.

According to the judiciary’s news outlet Mizan, the man was hanged at dawn in Beyram after being found guilty of killing a mother and her three children during a robbery in October 2024.

The convict and his wife were both sentenced to death earlier this year, with Iran’s Supreme Court upholding the verdict in April.

Officials said the woman’s sentence will be carried out inside prison, though no date has been given.

Iran is among the world’s leading executors, second only to China, according to rights groups such as Amnesty International.

Capital punishment in the country is applied for crimes including murder, rape, and drug trafficking.

Public executions, typically by hanging, remain a practice in some parts of Iran, often staged at dawn in town squares.
