The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says young Nigerians are leading the way in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR).
INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, disclosed that within just seven hours of resuming the nationwide online registration on Monday, 69,376 Nigerians had completed pre-registration.
“Out of the total registrants, 48,033 are aged 18 to 34, representing 69.2 percent of early applicants,” Olumekun said.
He added that 33,803 applicants (48.7 percent) were male, while 35,573 (51.3 percent) were female.
Olumekun emphasized that the online portal remains accessible 24/7 and in-person registration will start on Monday, August 25, at 811 state and local government offices nationwide, operating from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays.
He also clarified that registration is only open to Nigerian citizens aged 18 and above who are not already registered voters.
He warned that double registration is unlawful.
He added that transfers between states and card replacements would also be accommodated.
