Ogun Govt compensates Ifo flood victims

Ogun State Government has given financial compensation to victims affected by the recent flood disaster in Ifo Local Government Area to help mitigate the adverse effect of the incident.

The Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Funmilayo Efuwape, during the compensation exercise held at Oke-mosan, said that the compensation was designated to bring the victims of Salvation Crescent, Olambe axis, back on their feet by providing a spring board on which they could pick up again.

Efuwape, represented by the Acting Director, Ogun State Emergency Management Agency, Soji Durojaiye, maintained that the Governor Dapo Abiodun-led administration remained committed to alleviating the plight of residents affected by natural disasters.

The commissioner disclosed that the intervention was aimed to support families who lost property and livelihoods recover and rebuild their lives.

‘’Government’s response to emergencies will continue to be swift and people-centered, in line with the administration’s resolve to protect lives and property across the state,’’ she said.

Efuwape stressed that the gesture was not just about providing financial relief but also about restoring hope to the victims, urging them to make judicious use of the support provided.

She advised the beneficiaries to consider preventive measures such as proper waste disposal and avoidance of construction on flood-prone areas, noting that environmental negligence often worsen the impact of flooding.

The commissioner assured residents of Olambe axis that government was working on a long-term solution, that would improve drainage systems to prevent recurrence of such disaster in the area and other parts of the State.

In their separate remarks, immediate past Chairman of the Community Development Association, CDA, Emmanuel Temilade and Treasurer, Eroighe AbdulRaman, appreciated the state government for coming to their aid, describing the compensation as a timely relief, while pledging to cooperate with government directives to mitigate against future occurrences.
