Singer Olawale Ibrahim Ashimi better known as Brymo has taken a swipe at Nigeria’s top stars, accusing them of exploiting younger artistes through remix collaborations.

In a post on his Instagram story, Brymo called out Burna Boy, Davido and other mainstream A-listers, urging them to stop “jumping on every hit song in a remix.”

According to him, the trend doesn’t necessarily help the upcoming acts but instead makes the bigger artistes appear as if they’re seeking relevance.

“Dear Nigerian mainstream “A-listers,”..

Burna… Davido… and Co.. stop jumping on every hit song in a remix, especially releases by newer acts… let other artistes find their own way, the pretending to be helping them reach higher is a ridiculous watch…

– stop seeking relevance in the efforts of ones who know little about the business… it’s vile!!..

Brymo’s blunt take has since sparked conversations online about whether remixes boost or overshadow the original artistes.

fikunademii wrote: Brymo has a point, because sometimes the bigger artistes overshadow the upcoming ones instead of letting them shine, the remix becomes more about the superstar than the original creator. collaborations can also open doors and give visibility that the younger acts may never get alone. The problem is balance, if the intent is to genuinely support then it works, but if it’s just to ride on a wave, it cheapens the craft.
