The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has vowed that Nigerians will reject the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections, saying hunger, insecurity and poverty will be the real issues on the ballot.

Speaking at an interactive session with journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, said the ruling party only used last weekend’s by-elections as a test run for 2027, but would be disappointed.

“We don’t call that an election. What the APC did in those by-elections was simply to test the ground for 2027. But I have bad news for them: what happened in those by-elections will not happen in 2027,” Ologunagba said.

He accused the APC of weaponizing poverty to manipulate voters, saying Nigerians were now wiser and would resist inducements in future elections.

“What happened in those by-elections, will not happen in 2007. Why? Nigerian people are wiser. They are hurting. What will be on the ballot in 2027 will be the hunger, the uncertainty and the insecurity that no money can purchase,” he stressed.

“Nigerian people will defeat them because they brought hunger to this country. For more than 10 years now, APC has been a point of pain to Nigeria.”

The PDP spokesman also alleged that security agencies were being used to clamp down on opposition members during the by-elections to fill 16 vacant state and national assembly seats across 13 states.

He further dismissed media reports suggesting plans for a parallel PDP convention in Abuja, insisting that the party’s national convention will hold in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15 and 16.

“That report is purely speculation. Our party followed due process, and the decision to hold the convention in Ibadan was made at the NEC meeting with INEC in attendance. The process is already underway, and we are currently in Ibadan,” Ologunagba said.

He added that the APC always becomes panicky when it notices unity within the PDP.

He stressed that attempts to sow disaffection in the party would fail.
