Security forces have rescued 44 kidnapped victims during a clearance operation in Rugu forest, Katsina State.

The operation, carried out on August 19, involved troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA, police, DSS, Civil Watch Corps, vigilantes, and air support from the Nigerian Air Force.

According to security sources, the raid targeted Kaigar Malamai, a border community within Rugu forest. Several bandits’ camps were dislodged, and the victims were freed unharmed.

Among those rescued were three persons from Kano State and 41 residents of Katsina State from Kankia, Charanci, Matazu, Kusada, and Dutsin-ma LGAs. The victims included elderly men, women, children, and entire families.

They were taken to General Hospital, Dan-Musa, for medical checks before being handed over to the Dan-Musa Local Government authorities.

Security agencies said patrols have been intensified in the area to prevent the return of the bandits.
