Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has hinted that Viktor Gyökeres could become the team’s designated penalty taker this season.

Bukayo Saka has traditionally taken responsibility from the spot for the Gunners.

On some occasions, Saka has allowed captain Martin Ødegaard to step up instead.

However, that order may be about to change following the arrival of Gyökeres from Sporting CP this summer.

In an interview with ESPN Brazil, Arteta was asked who his squad’s best taker was.

“Gyokeres,” he replied without a moment’s hesitation.

Last season, Gyökeres converted an impressive 19 spot kicks.

Excluding penalty shootouts, Saka has missed only two of the 14 penalties he has taken in club football.
