Khadijat, a destitute woman who was mistaken for a suspected kidnapper and lynched, has been buried amid calls for justice.
She was laid to rest on Thursday in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
Khadijat, who sold sachet water at Ipata Market, was accused of attempting to abduct children in the area before being lynched by a mob.
Members of her family demanded justice, insisting that “the deceased was never a kidnapper but an innocent destitute who was at the wrong place at the wrong time.”
Until her tragic end, Khadijat hailed from the Ile Lati Compound, Oke Apomu area of Ilorin West Local Government. She was lynched at the popular Ipata Market over suspicion of being a kidnapper.
She was allegedly found with multiple ATM cards, as well as naira and foreign currencies, though the state police command has not confirmed this.
The Kwara State Police Command, on Thursday, condemned the jungle justice meted out to the woman mistaken for a suspected kidnapper.
Efforts to reach the spokesperson of the command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, on Friday, to confirm whether any arrests had been made, proved abortive at the time of filing this report.
