The Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Bida, Dr Usman Abubakar, has urged the public to verify information before sharing and to avoid spreading fake news that could cause unnecessary tension in society.

Dr Abubakar made the appeal at a stakeholders’ meeting on the hospital’s services in Bida, Niger State.

He noted that the hospital operates an open-door policy, allowing the public to contact hospital authorities at any time for clarification on its services.

While encouraging people to speak positively about FMC Bida and avoid circulating unfounded stories, the medical director reaffirmed the hospital’s commitment to providing quality and accessible healthcare services to Nigerians and other citizens.

Alhaji Yahaya Aliyu, the Maiyaki Nupe, who is also the Vice Chairman of the Guild of Friends of FMC Bida, commended the medical director and his management team for their efforts in repositioning the centre for quality healthcare delivery. He rated their performance at 95 per cent and praised their dedication to service.

He advised the management to remain focused, avoid distractions, and carry out their duties diligently, emphasising the importance of prioritising health and spending on medical care.

Alhaji Aliyu also stated that the hospital charges a minimal fee of N700 per bed space, unlike some other FMCs that charge as much as N5,000.

“If, for instance, you increase the bed space fee to N1,000, there will be an uproar in Bida, whereas people easily spend N5,000 on recharge cards to listen to or watch things of little value. We are appealing to residents and stakeholders to cooperate with the hospital management to ensure sustainable quality healthcare services,” he added.
