A political scholar, Prof. K’tso Nghargbu, has warned that both the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may lose the 2027 presidential election for sidelining the North.

Prof. Nghargbu, who leads a group of North Central stakeholders pushing for power shift to the region, said this on Tuesday at a press conference in Abuja. He faulted the APC for adopting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as its sole candidate and the PDP for zoning its ticket to the South.

He stressed that ignoring the North—especially the North Central—would have serious political consequences.

According to him, if the African Democratic Congress (ADC) or any other major party picks a northern candidate, that party could win in 2027.

The professor argued that the North Central has capable leaders and has never produced a civilian president since Nigeria’s independence in 1960, despite its contributions to national growth.

“Any party that refuses to give its presidential ticket to the North, particularly the North Central, should forget about our votes,” he said.

“Our demand is rooted in fairness and justice. A zone denied leadership for decades deserves a chance.”

He added that if the ADC fields a candidate from the North, and the region unites with bloc votes, the party stands a strong chance of winning the election.
