Former Chelsea player, Craig Burley has said that Manchester United should have left the duo of Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir in Grimsby following the Red Devils’ defeat on Wednesday.

Speaking on ESPN along with former Newcastle United star, Shaka Hislop, Burley pointed to the goalkeeping issues at Old Trafford.

A League 2 side, Grimsby Town, knocked Manchester United out of the EFL Cup on Wednesday.

Burley is of the opinion that the two goalkeepers should not return to Old Trafford with the squad.

The game ended in a penalty shootout which Grimsby won 12-11.

Manchester United came from 2-0 down to level 2-2 after Grimsby took a 2-0 lead inside the first 30 minutes.

Hislop wondered whether things would at some point get better at Old Trafford.

“Two big mistakes from Onana tonight. I’ve sat here and made the argument that I’ll have Onana over Altay [Bayindir]. [Based] on this performance, I’m not so sure.”

Burley added, “You might as well leave the both of them in Grimsby. Buy them a house, just say, stay there.”

While Onana was able to save one penalty in the shootout, new signings, Matheus Cunha and Mbeumo missed theirs.
