Lawmakers in the Oyo State House of Assembly have described one of their colleagues, Ibraheem Shittu, as an absentee lawmaker.

The lawmakers noted that Shittu rarely attends plenary sessions.

They made these assertions in a statement jointly signed by the Majority Leader, Sanjo Adedoyin, and the Chairman, House Committee on Information, Media, Public Affairs and ICT, Waheed Akintayo.

Shittu, who represents Saki West State Constituency on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, had on Wednesday raised the alarm that the Assembly had secretly approved a loan of three hundred billion naira for Governor Seyi Makinde.

The APC lawmaker claimed that he was not informed about the meeting.

Shittu, in the statement obtained by DAILY POST, also said that the loan was approved while members were on recess.

But Adedoyin and Akintayo, in their joint statement, described Shittu’s claims as misleading.

The duo, both members of the state’s ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, said the alarm raised by Shittu reflected his complete disconnect from legislative responsibilities.

They described the APC lawmaker as an absentee legislator who rarely attends plenaries.

They maintained that Shittu’s attendance at plenary sessions is poor compared to others, and further claimed he is the least active member of the 10th Assembly.

In the statement issued on behalf of the Assembly, they argued that the APC lawmaker has failed his constituents and betrayed the legislative mandate entrusted to him.

According to the statement: “His absence extended to all previous oversight duties and committee assignments, where his contributions are either non-existent or irrelevant.”

They concluded by advising him to redirect his energy towards becoming a functional legislator.
