Security agencies stage show of force ahead of Rivers LG Polls

Security operatives in Rivers State on Friday carried out a show of force in Port Harcourt to assure residents of their safety ahead of Saturday’s local government elections.

The exercise, which kicked off from the Rivers State Police Command Headquarters on Moscow Road, involved a convoy of patrol vehicles from the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, and other sister agencies.

The security convoy moved through major streets in Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor Local Government Areas, demonstrating operational preparedness to maintain peace and order before, during, and after the elections.

The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, had earlier reiterated that comprehensive security measures had been put in place to ensure a free, fair, and credible exercise.

CP Adepoju emphasized that the deployment of personnel and resources was aimed at guaranteeing residents’ confidence in the process.

Meanwhile, the state police command has declared a restriction of movement across Rivers State on election day.

The restriction, which applies to both human and vehicular movement, will run from 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 30.
