Two men have been arrested by the police for vandalizing electricity transformer and cables in Yusufari LGA of Yobe State.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Yobe State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, on Sunday.

According to the statement, the suspects were arrested based on credible information, and during interrogation, they confessed to the crime.

“The Yusufari Divisional Police Headquarters has apprehended two suspects, Kabiru Ibrahim, 23, of Sabon Garin Gashu, and Abubakar Abubakar, 24, of Bade LGA, for dismantling transformer components and cables, causing severe damage at Sunomari Area of Yusufari Town.

“Investigation is underway for subsequent prosecution,” the PPRO said.

The Commissioner of Police, CP, Emmanuel Ado, condemned acts of vandalism and urged residents to allow the law to take its course whenever they apprehend suspects.

He was reacting to attempts by Yusufari youths to lynch the suspects and set fire to their motorcycle.

The CP stressed that the Command will not condone mob action and will ensure that justice is served through due process.

“Always report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or security formation in your areas,” he appealed to residents.
