A Chief Magistrate in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti state, Mrs Adefunke Anoma, has ordered the remand of 18-year-old Solomon Sunday in a correctional centre for allegedly raping a two-year-old girl.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Olasunkanmi Bankole, informed the chief magistrate court that there was probable cause to order the remand of the defendant.

According to him, the defendant was reasonably suspected to have committed the offence of rape on the victim, an act punishable under Section 31, of the Child Rights Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

The police officer remarked that the alleged offence occurred within the Ado-Ekiti magisterial district on August 24, 2024.

Urged the court to grant to remand the suspect, the prosecutor said the duplicate file had been sent to the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, for legal advice.

Anoma ordered that the defendant be remanded in correctional custody until October 14, 2025 when the case is billed for mention.
