The Kano State Government has voiced its serious concerns regarding the regular deportation of citizens from FCT to Kano and other northern states.

In a statement on Thursday, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Children and Persons with Disabilities, Hajiya Amina Sani-Abdullahi stated that in the last four weeks, several Nigerians, mostly indigenes of Kano, Jigawa, Katsina and Kaduna had been forcibly moved from Abuja to Kano.

She described the action as unconstitutional, stressing that every Nigerian has the right to live and seek livelihood in any part of the country without harassment, provided they do not threaten public peace.

“The FCT is not the property of a single state or region; it is the common heritage of all Nigerians and, as such, a home for all,” she said. “If certain individuals are found engaging in activities you consider undesirable, the humane approach would be empowerment programmes, grants, or rehabilitation—not forceful deportation.”

According to her, Some of them were held in custody for more than 10 days under deplorable conditions, with food provided once a day.

She described the treatment as degrading and unacceptable in a democratic society.

Sani-Abdullahi emphasized that Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf’s administration would not tolerate the humiliation of its citizens, urging the FCT Administration to end what she termed unconstitutional deportations and adopt lawful, humane measures going forward.
