Kano police nab three for fraud, impersonation of security officials

The Kano state Police command has arrested three men accused of impersonating security personnel and defrauding a victim of over one million naira.

Police spokesperson SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, in a statement issued on Thursday, said the suspects; Nasiru Adamu (30) from Sokoto, and Yusuf Sani (49) and Aliyu Yusuf (25), both from Daura, Katsina State were arrested on September 2, 2025, at Danagundi Quarters, Kano.

The trio allegedly deceived their victim, Salisu Ibrahim, and fraudulently obtained the sum of ₦1,030,000.00 from him.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects allegedly posed as security personnel and deceitfully claimed to possess special abilities to assist the victim. They instructed him to bring the money to a specific location, where they planned to provide further instructions through a whispered message. Acting swiftly on the distress call and with the assistance of the public, the Police successfully arrested the suspects.” The statement partly reads.

Kiyawa said investigation is ongoing and the suspects would be charged to court soon. He urged other possible victims to come forward and assist the police by contacting the Investigation Police Officer.
